It still amazes me that some of my peers communicate with their mothers via SMS.

Mother doesn’t use SMS. Well, she tried once, via Kakao that my brother loaded on the iPad that we’d gotten her for her birthday. It would have worked, just that I didn’t have said program on my iPhone at that time.

It’s always been handwritten notes. She leaves them outside my door on the floor. Or stuck to my door for me to read when I’m back. I leave them on the kitchen table. Sometimes she sends me Howlers: huge handwriting in thick red markers with many exclamation marks eg, “WHY YOU LOCK THE DOOR BUT NEVER CLOSE THE GATE!”, “YOUR ROOM IS TOO MESSY!!!” Of course, I simply Incinerate tear them up and deposit them into the Paper-For-Recycling bin in my room.

In under an hour of very targeted shopping, I got all I needed at Vivo City.

1. Croatia travel guidebook
It did take me a while to locate the Travel section in Page One. Also, books aren’t left open for browsing, so I was glad I’d already looked through the lot at Kinokuniua and knew which book I wanted. Picked up an origami set, just couldn’t resist.

2. 五月天 – “第二人生”专辑
WTF are there two CD versions. Rock Records, what are you trying to pull! With the increased ticket prices to boot.

3. Iphone4 case
I’ve been looking for one for ages since my current one is chipped at two corners and the lacquer is peeling off. Managed to get a treasure hunt-themes one from one of those cubicled shops.

Now for dinner and bitching session.

We’ve managed to watch the two movies we wanted to before fridge had to leave for SF. Caught 那些年我们一起追的女孩 last Friday on strong recommendation by two male colleagues. Delightful, hilarious, and bittersweet. Probably more relatable for the guys! The girl lead reminds me a little of Proposal Daisakusen’s lead.

The other movie we wanted, and still managed to catch even one month from its opening is Immortals. Just got the tickets, am now waiting for 5pm to come. Can’t wait for brainless muscled action!

I’m now lost in the holiday fic fests XD will post a list of recommendations soon.

So I met up with qiong and avaris yesterday for a short KTV session. Kbox now has quite a selection of Japanese songs! So there we were singing old Dora Athens songs and decade-old Luna Sea songs – of which some actually came with the original MVs. Kinda reminded me again why I took Japanese classes in the first place: to be able to understand song lyrics and to read magazines/interviews. Somewhere along the past year I lost that focus, being too busy with work or other things to focus on my lessons outside of class, not really listening to music that much anymore, not watching anime or dramas. (Part of that can be attributed to my fic addiction, really.) And uhm, died so badly with the DBSK songs; pitch inadequacies and I just can’t speed-read that fast! Went home and immersed myself in their songs and mourned what was once a five member group.

There was Mayday and Jam Hsiao madness too. I need to acquaint myself with all of Jam Hsiao’s songs before his concert next year.

Qiong passed me my Sony ebook reader, a featherlight maroon beauty of a gadgetXD now to get down to reading more books. A welcome move after Stanza for iPhone didn’t get updated for iOS5, leaving me bereft of a good ebook programme. (Lexcycle, please update the Stanza app! Will pay to use!!!!)

Had tea at Oriole Cafe at 313 Somerset after all that excitement. It was good to walk in away from the crowds and be enveloped by the smells of coffee and fresh pastries. Their scones aren’t too bad, if tiny. Coffee is goooood.

Need to meet qiong again for more transfer of fandomy stuff.

I’ve resisted upgrading my iphone to iOS5 because there aren’t significant improvements. But, I made the fatal mistake of upgrading my calendar application, which has NOW stopped running on iOS4 because it’s been upgraded for iOS5! So, for the second time in my phone’s life, I connected it to iTUNES.

“New update for iPhone available. Would you like to upgrade?”

*clicks yes*

“First you need to upgrade iTUNES.”

*gnashes teeth*

*clicks yes*

*spends the next half an hour waiting for itunes to upgrade because it is stupid and can’t upgrade itself any faster*

*tears hair out*

Am now sitting at a kopitiam watching Doraemon on TV, after forcing down some awful, awful kaya toast that wasn’t really toast but a huge bun sliced and burntput on the grill.

Thirty meters away my car’s in a workshop getting a new set of tyres. I stupidly punctured one of the rear tyres while turning into my porch at a bad angle last night. Tyre gone. Gate gone. Mother hopping mad and hurling verbal abuse at me even still today. Father was awesome helping me fix the gate temporarily and slap on the spare tyre yesterday.

Horrid way to spend my one off day this month.

I told qiong about this. She said, “You’re the only way who spells tires the British way to me.”

I managed to watch the Kinjo Gakuin University Handbell Choir not once, but twice in a day on 7 September, Wednesday. I actually caught them at the atrium of my hospital during a lunchtime performance in a stroke of serendipity. I suffered the indignity of my colleagues witnessing me running like a giddy fourteen-year-old from the ward (all the way at the subacute side!) to the atrium.

And there we were at SCGS later that evening, watching them again. It’s been more than ten years since they last came to Singapore and performed in a number of venues, including RGS. This time they brought…just 4 octaves, I believe. It was good to watch them again, with a good mix of songs in their repertoire.

Beauty and the Beast, Let There Be Peace on Earth – songs we used to play all the time too! So many memories.

2014 – Symposium in Korea, nothing’s stopping me from going!

And perhaps..perhaps…Resonance will be born again one day.

It’s been such a fun 10-episode series to watch. You get so many songs per episode: a big group number at the start, a music video, and three last-chance performances.

Spoilers ahead, if you haven’t watched the last episode yet.

It started off painfully.
I forgot both my handphones and had to double back for them afer I’d already left home. When I finally got to the car park they wouldn’t let me in because my season application had expired (they extended our posting till 9August but forgot to extend the car park application as well!)

And then I spilt Milo over my iPad and it’s not-waterproof cover. Hell.

And my cardiac technician told me that I’m appearing in some JCI video on selected LCD screens at the workplace. Major yikes.

And in the evening at gym the trainer got his schedule mixed up and I didn’t get my session.

Grrrrrrrrr.

Tomorrow will be a better day!

Went to watch it a second time with my friends this time. We got really irritated by this trio of girls on our left who were really noisy and blubbering throughout the show. Gargh would have hexed them if I could.

Have typed more ramblings below, not necessarily observations made only during this second viewing. More..fangirling ahead, really. Don’t read if you aren’t qiong or avaris.
