Prof Raj has a disconcerting habit of expecting us to complete his sentences e.g.

Prof R:”When a valve is not working we say that it is….?”
Us: *come up with various synonyms*
Prof R: No no…starting with “I”? *
Us: Incapable. Inadequate *and more*
Prof R: Incompetent.
Us: O.O

And this:
Prof R: We call this the sympathetic ___? *makes outward pushing motion with hands*
Everyone: *blank*
Me: Outflow!
Prof R: Yes, outflow. You guys must learn to read my mind.

I have a pretty high strike rate so far ^^ (i.e. 30%) I attribute that to playing charades back in Sec 4 …aah…I miss those days of charades and pooh sticks and bubbles.

Today was Lift Day. I gave Christine a lift back to her hostel, then took lynn and brother out to the main road after going to lynn’s house. Damn anime physics. I am forced to wear high heels for the first time in cosplay ‘cos my legs aren’t long enough >.

I love pumpkins. ’specially Mervyn from Sandman.

And I forgot to back up my previous pourqoui layout!!!!!! ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH!

I want to cut open Mayura’s chest and scrape off her parietal pleura. Argh. I will do that if I hear her squeal “MEES-TAH-REE” one more time. (let’s overlook the fact that she only exists in 2 dimensions)

And I want to watch Identity…John Cusack!

To shuui: so there’s someone else who’s read Lynn Flewelling!!! I can’t wait for the libraries to get Hidden Warrior… I really loved The Bone Doll’s Twin though it creeped me out.

Made a very bad decision today that could have been avoided with some thinking on my part. Conducted myself badly as well.

You guys are wonderful. I don

I’ve got a bone to pick with them. (Forgot to blog about this in the earlier post.)

See right, my given name is Pei Lin, with a space in the middle, and no ‘g’ at the end. The waiter said that they’d help us keep the cake in the fridge at the bar, and that I’d have to leave my name with them. So I spelt out my name without pronouncing it. “H-U *pause* P-E-I *pause* L-I-N,” said I. He managed to get the spacing right, but somehow a ‘g’ appeared behind. Grr. What is it with people. What’s the point of trying to transmit information when the other party already has a preconceived idea of what the information should be.

I would have blogged earlier, but I was playing typist for Father. After squinting at 50 pages of data I figured out how to use the formula function for the remaining 10 pages *sigh* at least I

Went for the Budak Pantai a capella concert at the Esplanade earlier. It’s a free concert; so the queue was really long. I can’t believe it! I was at the lobby, went off to the chocolate shop for a few minutes, then returned to find a long, long queue snaking up to the 2nd ‘tier’ from the door. *gasp* And when the concert hall was full, they had to let the remaining people take the seats right behind and above the stage. So when people emerged from the doors behind the stage to get to their seats some members of the audience actually started clapping *lol* The Budak Pantai people even introduced them later: “And presenting, for the first time in Esplanade history, the BUDAK PANTAI CHOIR!!” *lol*

I really enjoyed the concert. They are a group of talented and irrevent guys ^^;; *makes note to grab cd off alanna – please!*

I met Esther at the lobby after that. Nope, she didn’t get kicked out of the library ‘cos she knew better than to try going there. I am envious of people who can just sit somewhere and study. I need a big, clean table, which probably explains why I don’t get much work done at home – my table is too cluttered.

I have just realised that since CA is on Thursday, it means that I have THREE days after the weekend to study, not FOUR. ARGH!

Hikaru no Go has ended…I’m happy (because that means the end of spending $$ on a series), sad (because there’s now nothing to look forward to) and satisfied. It had a good ending.

This is in reply to stone’s oct 17 blog entry. They asked me at the medicine interview whether I thought that doctors could cure everything. A simple yes/no/sometimes question, but I suddenly realised that I didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘cure’. I didn’t answer for a long time ‘cos I was trying to organise my thoughts and rethink what I’ve been thinking the whole of my life. I started many sentences, and the interviewer actually said, “Okay, let’s make this easy. All of the time, only sometimes, or never?” I said “Only sometimes” in relief. (okay, story time over)

Medicine so far is mostly trying to allow the patient to lead a normal life to the greatest extent possible. It doesn’t really return one’s body back to the equilibrium – the natural, ‘meant-to-be’ state. I strongly believe that the body has unlimited rejuvenative capacity, and the key to medicine should lie in triggering the ‘on’ button for that. I still think that medicine is wonderful because it showcases how humans are determined to make the best of everything, even if they can’t solve the root of the problem.

The natural cycle of things: give the body what it’s meant to be given, and the body will be as it is meant to be. Upset the cycle, and you get sick. The body can right things, but you have to get it to.

Yup, I think that’s what I meant to say.

I think that’s really hard ^^;; Probably just a daydream for now. I’m sure lots of people have already thought of this and tried to research it, but maybe the means doesn’t lie in life sciences. Maybe there’s more to life than just genes, and that will be the key.

To qich: I borrow Moore from the library ^^;; I sit with Moore on my lap and Snell on the table (or the other way round) and write out notes.

To rie: WHAT??? Episode THIRTEEN??? *faints* I’m still downloading episode 4 ^^:;

To alanna: arigato!

To eunice: Nice to see you at my blog. I knew you’d laugh :) where people like alanna and rie groaned.

To shmeen: Yup do introduce me to your girl kakis!

I have started watching Mantantei Loki Raganarok! (pls be proud of me, rie.) Sometime please tell me which episode the grown-up Loki appears in ^^;;

PDP today was okay, I guess…nothing as bombastic as Shmeen’s experience. Go read it on Shmeen’s blog! I am very impressed by the motor accident guy. My mentor is a petite woman with an accent I can’t quite place; but she’s nice and encouraging. “That’s a very good question!” she keeps saying.

After PDP I tried to buy Keith Moore at the co-op, but it’s not there. Drove to Bras Basah – yes, I actually checked the street directory beforehand and didn’t get lost on the way there! Parking wasn’t too bad; I just went out and in again ONE time :) Moore wasn’t there either; and the nice lady told me that it’d be cheaper to buy from NUS. Got a little lost on the way home and ended up in Chinatown, but thankfully I know how to get to the CTE from there, so it wasn’t a problem. I love the signboards in Singapore.

It is scary when we are on first-name basis with our textbooks.
Guy #1: You want to buy Moore? What’s wrong with Snell?
Me: *complains about how the colour scheme gives me indigestion*
Guy #1: How can you do that to Richard! He’s my best friend!
Me: No, I’m in love with Keith.
Guys #2 & #3: Keith is OUR best friend. *nod nod*

More lame things. Ack. Tired.

I haven’t really met many people in medicine that I didn’t already know from sec sch, JC or orientation; mostly my various tutorial groups. Of these I like the guys more, but that doesn’t say a lot ‘cos there ARE more guys anyway. The girls who are with me in ALL my tutorial groups are strange. Not that they’re horrible; they’re just not the kind of people I’d choose to hang out with. One’s ultra feminine, speaks English like an ang moh, but is sunshiny and is a gadget freak. The other is bimbo-pretty (bleached brown maggie mee for hair) who is blunt, fearless, and sporty, and has an unconscious determination to make herself the centre of attention at times. That’s the nutshell, I guess, but not the kernel since I still don’t know them very well.

The girl seniors had another colour-coordinated day in the library yesterday! All wore red ^^;; We should do something like that too.
