The concert’s over. I screwed up; and we didn’t play both pieces as well as we were able to, but it was still great fun. There’s going to be this void in my life from now on, heh. Especially when I think of the group that’s going to attend Symposium next week *envious*

It’s weird, but even though I’m a medical student and the daughter of a GP, I shy away from taking medicine myself. Ever since I got sick around the start of the paediatrics posting, my allergic rhinitis has come back in full force after 6 years. I can’t be in an air-conditioned ward for 5 minutes without having to wipe my nose; I’m concentrating more on sniffling and the cloudedness of my brain, than on what my companions are asking the patient. It’s rather disruptive since I walk out of the ward to do this act and wash my hands, so that the parents won’t see me wiping my nose and think that medical students are unhygienic creatures who shouldn’t be allowed to touch their kids. Ugh. Why didn’t I ask Father for pills or nasal sprays earlier, ugh.

The last handbell practice tonight, and the concert tomorrow. I’m going to miss the weekly/biweekly practices. I’ll miss the other ringers – keep in touch, you guys! I’ll miss the bells so much.
And then, maybe I’ll be able to put my whole heart into studying.

Whatever happened to my grand plans to study and exercise today?

1. Study — I ended finishing the 2nd half of Hidden Warrior that I’ve been re-reading over the past few days. I cannot wait to get my hands on the last book of the Tamir Trilogy, The Oracle’s Queen. Reader reviews aren’t glowing as there’s “too much romance” in it, but why complain when the main character’s a warrior queen and her sidekick is somewhat like Ron Weasley? (In my mind he looks like a handsome version of Ron, haha.) Haruhi in Ouran High School Host Club reminds of Tamir/Tobin, actually. Fantasy is blissful escapism; and it has to be fantasy that doesn’t require too much brainwork to understand. Maybe I’ll re-read the Nightrunner series too.

2. Exercise – my nose just wouldn’t stop dripping again today. Sigh.

And I have to try to get my computer to work again, argh. Father changed the motherboard for me, and now I can’t even start or setup Windows without my computer pausing at yet another Blue Screen of Death.

Eventful day! I met up with the Asterisk bunch to listen to (and watch) lynn recount her adventures at Anime Expo. I wish I’d gone. I hope the rest of us will be able to go together one day. I want to see the friends she managed to see. Thank you for the presents.

The thing about being in a 80%-male group (and me being less feminine than most girls) is that lunch passes very quickly. Lunch conversation is limited to “chomp slurp chomp slurp aiyah uncle cheat my money give so little meat chomp slurp chomp slurp“.

Going out later, but without the car. I’m starting to feel so dependent on the convenience of driving; but the amount of money spent on petrol and parking is painful.

And oh, Project Runway Season 3 is on youtube! And there’s this guy with a diabolical laugh. He’s prissy and stuck-up. He’ll probably make the same kind of clothes as Austin Scarlet, but he’s not as adorable.

I’ve been perpetually sick for the whole posting. I exercised 4 times in the first week, 3 times in the 2nd week, 2 times in the 3rd week and once in the 4th week. I can feel my muscles atrophying even as the glycogen builds up within. My daily weight seems the same, but perhaps the muscles are disappearing while the fat is piling up. I hope there are fewer infective kids in NUH. I need to change the way my life is scheduled. Here’s what I hope it’ll be:

Wake up: 5.15am
Reach gym: 5.30am
Leave gym: 6.30am
Eat breakfast, bathe, empty my bowels and get dressed for school.
Leave home: 7am.
School: 8am-5.30pm
Study in school: 5.30 to whenever.
Home: 9.30pm
Bedtime: 11pm

Bad thing about exercising in the morning is that I have allergic rhinitis i.e. my nose drips till lunch time. Funny, I thought I grew out of it some time ago; something must be triggering it. Time to vacuum the room.

Two thoughts today.

“What do you hope to achieve?”

and

I’m a bad group rep.

It appears that most males can’t stop talking and staring at beautiful women.

Even if they’re four years old. Ahahahaha.

We visited this little girl with a doll’s hair cut, porcelain skin, beautiful eyes and a shut mouth (very important to me). One of us spoke to her father, while the rest concurred silently that she was adorable. She eventually got restless. Her father handed her a HUGE toy gun that flashed and commanded “FIRE! FIRE!”, and she unceremoniously proceeded to take down the White Army.

At that point I was reminded of Chise from Saishuuheki Kanojo. (She has the same hairstyle and complexion.)

AV whispered to me, “Doesn’t she play with dolls?”

I whispered back, “I didn’t.” I had a gun too, just not as large.

I’m going crazy staring at cryptic flow charts in the lecture notes, so here’s a short escape online.

It’s uncanny when your younger brother attends a friend’s wedding dinner before you’ve witnessed the first of your friends in wedding finery. Anyway the groom is his 27-year-old colleague, so it’s understandable.

Father got off the plane from Penang some hours ago. We just found out that he has bilateral painless pedal edema. A little scary at first, but Father says he drank gallons of water earlier in a pre-emptive attempt to stave off gout (the food in Penang is too good.) I hope it’s nothing serious.

I’m eagerly waiting for the release of third book of the Tamir trilogy, The Queen’s Oracle by Lynn Flewelling. In the meantime, I hope to finish re-reading the first two books.

I made a choice some time ago that I regret, but it’s a small thing at the end of the day.

I’m too tired to relive the past few days just so I can type something here, so here’s just a brief mention of various events.

1. Cosfest V (9 July) – an overcrowded affair with a surprisingly narrow spectrum of cosplayer characters. I expected to see more Nana cosplayers, for one. Half of me wished that I’d indeed cosplayed this time – indeed, I do have a never-before-worn costume on my hands – but I’m glad I didn’t, overall. Especially since the two “winners” of the cosplay competition were Lacus and Lunamaria. Not the same without anata, hahaha. Good things about Cosfest were getting to see the rest of the girls again, briefly chatting with raydance at Burger King, bumping into people who went overseas to study, pyn who I’ve not seen in centuries, the singers (Rika, however you spell her name; and the Indian girl who sang “Endless Story”) and the Saya cosplayer with an aura about her. And then my stamina gave out and I left.

2. Handbell practice. Keeps me going the entire week, I tell you. The songs are shaping up quite well, but I hope we can make it in time. My wrist power’s currently not enough to grab a bass bell off the table and ring it loudly in less than a second. We’re trying to get a new design (or rather, asking our now-graduated artist to) out in time for the concert. Tickets sold out already, people. RGS needs a bigger drama theatre.

3. Paediatrics posting. The KKH group laments that they have no time to clerk patients. We spend too much time traveling to and fro. And since 70% of the kids warded have some kind of respiratory infection, my entire CG is sick save one person. He’s valiantly hanging on ‘cos he has a choir competition in China later this month.

4. Pirates of the Caribbean
I watched this on Thursday, the day it opened. There were hilarious moments, but there was too little of Jack Sparrow in it! The movie was a bit too drawn out – there’s only so long you can be amused by a great spinning waterwheel. Elizabeth and Jack Sparrow have chemistry; kick out Will Turner, I say. I loved the swamp witch, actually, though I couldn’t make out half of what she said. Might do a review of the movie later.

5. Mandatory food photos. I haven’t been anywhere fancy, but here they are anyway.

Kenny's Quarter
I went to Kenny Rogers for dinner at Marina Square. Kenny’s Quarter comprises a quarter chicken, 2 sides and a corn muffin for $10.50++. However, there’s been a shipping delay in the muffin mix, so they replaced the muffin with a third side.

And on Saturday, I went to Food Republic at Wisma Atria. We decided to eat at Koh Sushi & Grill. The cooked fare is decent for the price, and there’s free flow of hot green tea. No service charge! I wouldn’t recommend sashimi or sushi though.

Saba shioyaki
Saba shioyaki. When in doubt, I always fall back on this boring but savoury choice. $8, including rice, appetiser, salad and miso soup.

Tokyo Ramen
Tokyo Ramen ($8). Decent, but nothing to shout about.
