Third Uncle’s family is at my place now for new year, so now I have my closest-in-age cousins to talk to. Note: that’s not New Year, which refers to the Chinese New Year. I confused the guy at the petrol kiosk by saying “my relatives are over for the new year.” He thought I meant the Chinese New Year, so he replied “So, they’re going back in March?” I guess the normal new year isn’t sufficient to merit a cross-border gathering. We’d like it to be CNY too, but the overseas people wouldn’t be around then. We miss you, Dr BFG! Hope you’re having a good time in Tokyo. Please eat lots of sushi for us.

Third Uncle is only two years younger than Father, which means that there is nothing but sibling rivalry between them. They try to prove themself right and the other wrong at every opportunity, or try to outdo the other. Such as seeing whose torch is brighter. (I am NOT kidding.) Or who has more white hair. (Father has less!) Or whose camera takes better photos. Luckily I have cosplay training, so I handle the multitude of camera flashes better than my cousins and siblings.

One thing’s that different this year is that all of us can drive, save for Sister. This means that when we go out, we take two cars, each car holding one generation. It also means that if my brother screws up (as the youngest, he gets priority to be the driver), we lose the entire generation.

There are things to look forward to in January.

  • Jan 11: Release of the movie Pan’s Labyrinth. You’ll catch me watching the preview on Jan 10. Heck care the medical debate on that day.
  • Jan 16: Muse concert. The highlight of my 22 years of living.
  • Jan undetermined: good dinner buffet somewhere

Ahahahahaha. Now, a recap of what I’ve been doing recently.

Is there something with the Internet today? I can’t seem to connect to most sites outside Singapore. Are we being boycotted or something? Oh well. Photos from Bangkok will have to wait. I just finished Knife of Dreams. Now I really hope that there’ll be a twelfth book.

I am back from Bangkok.

I’ll be leaving for Bangkok tomorrow and returning next Tuesday. So long, folks!

I’m an alt-tab.

p.s. I’ve started on Book 11 of The Wheel of Time!

Today my OG went out for lunch and Eragon. Lunch was at the Hong Kong cafe at Cineleisure, followed by dessert at the level 2 cafe near the escalator. For some reason, the cushions were splattered with bird droppings. We looked up and saw a magpie leering at us some 15 metres above. We quickly ordered the 8scoop ice cream combo, and secretly got a piece of cake for dear James. Happy birthday James! Happy belated birthday Calvin! (and HH, too.)

The movie, Eragon, wasn’t quite worth the money, I thought. The book was guilty of several fantasy cliches, but it was still an enjoyable read with enough subplots and convolutions. The movie took out many interesting plot points and dumped in cheesy dialogue, ugh. The star of the show was the dragon, who has a lovely voice and is capable of facial expressions than most actresses. The graphics were good, and the flying scenes were spectacular. Everything else looked like it came from a TV series. Eragon himself wasn’t that great an actor, but I suppose it’s okay for a first-timer. Ayra has suitably elfin looks, but wears a weird feather in her hair. I quite like Murtagh, but I can’t for the life of me remember much more about him despite having read the book a few years ago. Wait. It wasn’t just a few years. It was before I got into year one!

Edit: just read wikipedia’s synopsis of Eragon. The movie doesn’t do the book justice.

I wonder what would happen if they tried to turn Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time into a movie. For one, how would they portray the agelessness of the Aes Sedai? Botox, no doubt.

I just watched episode 6 of Ghost Hunt. Argh, how can people stand to have dolls in the house! I’m really creeped out. (I never played with any when I was a kid.)

I went to Johor today to revive my RHB bank account. Darn, don’t do anything to it for 6 months and it becomes dormant. The interest rate is 3%, which is higher than what Singapore banks offer. I can’t quite sell any of my Malaysian shares yet, so I’ll just sit pretty and collect dividends.

My little nephew is now 10 months old and has the worst case of stranger anxiety I’ve seen. I stepped into the doorway and he started bawling. Maybe it’s just me. He’s a handsome little tot, though. The eldest girl looks just like my cousin. The second girl, I thought looked like my cousin’s husband; but somehow she’s starting to resemble cvy.

I was productive yesterday. I redeemed my Tangs vouchers, and made use of the 20% sale at Kinokuniya to get the Oxide2x artbook XD. Tomorrow I’ll be going to the Singapore Garden Festival. First Uncle’s the vice-president XD so he’ll bring me around and give a running commentary.

I haven’t been food blogging for quite a while, being chained to the library studying for exams. Thus, on Monday we braved the rain and went to town, ending up at Akashi at Tanglin Shopping Centre.

I asked Father for some contraceptive pills to delay my period till after the Bangkok trip. So he brought back norethisterone, of all things i.e. the very androgenic one that causes increased appetite, weight gain and acne T_T. The usual dose is norethisterone 5mg twice a day, but upon seeing my horrified face, Father said “You try once a day, see whether can. Experiment on you.”

It’s really cold.

Random post again. I’m waiting for the stock market to open.
