We took a 1.5-hour ferry ride to the offshore island of Mljet for 22 kunas (off-peak). The ferry departed at 9am, with tickets on sale at 8.30am.

Kenny and I endured a painful overnight 13-hour coach ride (184 kunas) from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, a coastal town in Croatia. I couldn’t recline my seat as either the lever was broken or I was just plain stupid; people were yakking away; and the driver had the radio on quite loud, so he wouldn’t fall asleep, I presume. At the end of it, both of us had aching backs and buttocks. I slept around 2 hours.

Viva A sign that we saw upon waking up when the bus made a stop. It scared us out of our wits.

The host, Davok (sp?) told us of various attractions we should visit. He had this way of saying “You will see” like a divine prediction, e.g. “Croatia is beautiful. *pause* You Will See.” or “the bus-stop is opposite the fountain. You Will See.” “No Problem” was another catchphrase, but it didn’t tickle us so much.

Tried fried chicken from Marrybrown at Changi Airport with Penance. Decent for the price, I felt. No photos because… well you’ll see why later.

The KLM flight was rather good. The food wasn’t too bad. The in-flight entertainment system is fantastic: the movies came in numerous categories, each of which contained 10 or so movies. I watched Dreamgirls.

Going off to Eastern Europe tonight. I pray for safety, patience, warmth and no constipation.

See you guys in 3 weeks.

Penance’s thought process was as follows: since I’m not going to be in Singapore for the next 3 weeks, we should eat Singaporean food. So Sunday saw us going to Vivo City (how Singaporean!) where I did NOT buy anything, to my credit. The Ted Baker changing room is gorgeous, though! The graphic books in PageOne are rather terrific, they teach you how to draw fantasy characters. Definitely a great spot to hang out at.

Bugis beef kway teow
Dinner was at Golden Mile Food Court at Beach Road, where we ordered from Bugis Beef Kway Teow at the basement. Beef kway teow has to be my favourite hawker food because it’s hearty and satisfying without needing oil or lard; and I just like the taste of beef. The beef kway teow here is very good: the soup is very beefy, and better than the Changi Village or Lavendar food square versions. The beef balls are to die for, firm and savoury. The beef itself was decent. I couldn’t appreciate the innards, but Penance says that they’re good.

Bugis beef kway teow
The dry version is good as well, about the same as the Changi Village one.

After that we went to East Cost Park. I had originally meant to sit on the breakwater and stare at the waves, but it was so humid that we retreated to the car after eating. Yes, eating. Penance had a second dinner of duck rice at the Lagoon hawker centre. *sweatdrop* The duck is tender, the sauce is fabulous; the queue is warranted.

Then went on to Chinatown looking for a place to have a drink. Well. We ended up wandering around the food street area and Keong Saik road. One day I will take a room in Hotel 1929 to see what the rooms are like. The dessert shop that Penance wanted to eat at was closed, so we ended up with lousy, too-sweet soursop ice at the food street.

This weather is killing me.

My father-daughter relationship is an unusual one. I’ll SMS him “please bring back contraceptive pills for me” and he’ll SMS back “OK”.

The pills are for delaying my period till after the Europe trip, of course. Love from Father comes in the form of a medical pack, with medicine for fever, pain, gastroenteritis, flu, allergic reactions and insomnia.

Got my backpack and wallet pouch from Mustafa today. I’m very skeptical about how I’m going to fit all I need into the backpack; but I’m done packing 70% of the stuff and it’s still light on my shoulders. Does anyone know how heavy a bass guitar is?

I…need to rest. Haven’t been feeling 100% well for more than a month already. (do I have leukocytopenia!?!?)

I watched episodes 20-22 (final) of Red Garden tonight. Spoilers ahead in my thoughts on this series.

The pathology written paper on Tuesday didn’t go too well. It was easy, but so easy that I didn’t study the easy things very well, instead on focusing on the harder things. Grr. It warranted a sinful lunch treat, so Penance and I hopped over to Kaisan at Raffles Hotel. I’m ashamed to say that we spent $35++ on lunch.

Both of us got the sushi gozen set. For some reason, the waitress did a double take when I told her “two sushi gozen sets”.

Appetizer
It started with the appetizer, a crunchy mix of vegetables paired with miso paste. The miso paste is milder, yet sweeter than the one at Kazu.

Sashimi
The sashimi was very fresh. Loved the tuna, though I usually dislike it.

Sushi
The sushi was fantastic; and came with just a small pinch of rice. Perfect for me.

Saba Shioyaki
The saba shioyaki was very moist and tender, though the skin could have been crispier.

Simmered dish
The simmered dish consisted of fish – very tenderly cooked, tofu, mushrooms and vegetables. The broth had a comforting, homely feel.

Matcha ice cream
Dessert was matcha icecream. Nothing spectacular, but included for completeness.

I’d definitely go back again. Well, someday after I start working, perhaps. The service is thoughtful and friendly; the dishes of the set come one by one, and they rearrange everything on your table when they bring in new plates so that it doesn’t get too claustrophic. Our tea was refilled…almost obsessively, heh. But perhaps because there were only two or three tables occupied at that time.

Muse will be supporting MCRon the latter’s 2007 North American tour! ARGH I WANT TO GOOOOOOOOOOO…

Mayday’s MV for 我又初恋了. It’s really cute! Oh, the arms! *dies laughing*
