The MOs brought us three SIP students out for dinner on Wednesday. One MO’s from Myanmar, so he decided to introduce us to Burmese food at Inle Myanmar Restaurant (at the basement of Peninsula Plaza). It’s run by a charming Myanmar lady who actually studied in London, the MO said. The restaurant takes its name from Inle Lake, a mountain lake in northen Myanmar.

Timothy: eatbma wrote about this place, he liked it.
MO: *double take* BMA? (bone marrow aspiration??)
Timothy: err…never mind.
[okay enough with the stupid medical jokes.]

I must say that Burmese cuisine is terrific. It’s very tasty due to thoughtful use of spices and curries, but not blatantly assaulting your tastebuds like Thai cuisine. The overall mix of salty, sour and spicy was very likeable.

Gurren Lagann 22 is awesome. The series is nearing the end, but even now new plot points are appearing. The pacing has always been tight from the start and it looks like the finale will be an explosive one. Spoilers below: (more…)

It was quite a rather relaxing Saturday at the ward because everyone tries not to order blood tests or procedures for any patient. (weekend mode, see.) I poked three people, failed two, and had the last one say “oh it’s over? I didn’t feel a thing!” Perhaps he has neuropathy from his chemo.

Ended later than I should have, which made it a good time to go for lunch at Central. Timothy wanted to try the Wakashachiya’s curry udon, just next to Marutama Ramen – which had 15 people queueing at 1.45pm. Didn’t Shan etc rave so much about that place?

I’ve certainly cut down on my food blogging for the following reasons:
1. I don’t go out so often nowadays.
2. I am poor yet still trying to save up for certain items.
3. The general opinion has been that I am getting too obsessed with bringing my camera along and it’s not good for me. Maybe that’s so. And it’s not like I’m improving, anyway. Gotta find another way to make myself happy and fulfil my OCD callings.

Still, photos after the cut. Shan, please read this BEFORE going to UK.

Long time no blog.

1. I’m unable to access gmail – after I type in my userid and password and press ENTER, the screen just stays white for eternity. Is anyone else experiencing this too?

2. In a beautiful twist, Odex lost against PacNet. Perhaps it was because the judge was a different one, but I love my ISP.

3. WTF ERP rates to be increased.

4. I’ve been spending my evenings reading Hanakimi -sweatdrops- Well, now I finally know where rie got the picture for her previous layout from. WOLS man. I promised rie that I’d get some of our convos up, but I still haven’t gotten down to it ^^;; Erm, might write a bit on my opinion of the Hanakimi manga and dorama later.

5. Gurren Lagann episode 21 rocks; probably one of the best episodes in the series.

Have been very tired after getting home. Tried going to the gym yesterday but kinda died there. I’m off tomorrow, thank goodness (but it’s my turn on Sunday). The MO is back; and he’s a very funny Hong Konger who’s also very nice – watching me take blood and offering, “if you can’t do it I’ll help you!” Thankfully I could get it. I love butterflies.

From hope:

You Are 44% Emo

You’re not emo, but you’re plenty thoughtful, unique, and even a little angsty.

Today was rather good. It was my turn to go back this Sunday, so I pre-rounded more than half the patients my side myself before the registrar showed up. He’s a really nice guy, helping to read out the parameters and all for me to scribble down. Spent the rest of the time doing procedures, which I finally managed to do on the first time, save for one blood-taking. It was really rather funny: I inserted the butterfly needle into a small but prominent vein on the forearm at the patient’s recommendation. The blood flowed ever so slowly. And STOPPED JUST BEFORE IT REACHED THE TUBE IN THE VACUTAINER HOLDER. ZZZZZZZZZZZ. So I had to prick him again; after it all he jokingly said “I don’t want to see you again.” It’s night call tomorrow. I’ve collected a stash of butterfly needles in my pouch in anticipation.

Brother’s friend gave us a box of McVitie’s Jaffer Cakes from the UK, which are actually Oreo-sized “light sponge cakes with dark crackly chocolate and the unmistakable zingy orange centre”. They’re not too sweet, very addictive, and that orange centre is a great finishing touch. With a fat content of 1g and 46kcal per cake, this is a superior alternative to other biscuits/cakes of the same class. Anyone knows where I can get them in Singapore? Apparently it’s a standard snack amongst the Britons, so Shan! You MUST eat them when you’re in the UK.
