After eating nothing but porridge and bread – no protein or fat except for two Ferroro Rocher bonbons! – on Christmas and Boxing Days, I went our for dinner with my family today. Teochew porridge! *headdesk* I feel like I’ve replaced all the salt I lost with that one single meal. Had further vengeance in the form of dessert – manga pomelo sago, but translocated the icecream to Brother’s bowl.
Am now reading book one of the Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare. Trashy, wicked, witty and awfully exciting. I love huddling in bed with a real book; but it gets too dark for reading in the car after dinner. She references Trigun, how cool is that!
It was EOY yesterday. Am glad I dragged myself out of the house to appear. Photos later! But I saw hide-san and Simon-san so I’m happy.

So the night shift wasn’t that great.
I chose to have a near-fainting spell at the most embarrassing moment EVER -helping the neurosurgical registrar translate a patient’s gravely ill status to something like eight family members. Ran back into the resus room and crouched on a stool, how mortifying. Checked my blood sugar and my blood pressure – all dandy. Didn’t think of doing a postural, ah well.
Heading to EOY in a cab now. The rain’s fierce.

Had Korean food for dinner last night.
Today morning, after drifting in and out of sleep with abdominal discomfort and nausea ( even dreamt I was going for a CT scan of the abdomen, WTF), I threw up yesterday’s kimchi jigae, the spice burning my oesophagus and throat on the way up.
Still burping kimchi-flavoured gas even now, omg. I don’t think I’ll be touching Korean food for a long while.
I’m really hoping that the vomiting and diarrhea gets done before night shift starts tonight. (there’s only so much gunk my digestive tract can hold, right.)
Happy Christmas, people.
I’m going to flop back into bed.

So I met up with ying for dinner today. We went to Ootoya at Orchard Central, which boasts calorie counts on their menu pages. I kinda just died there. OMG, 1200kcal for a katsu set. OMG. *dies* OMG. That’s like my calorie requirement for ONE DAY.

Got the set with steamed hotate rice and chicken/egg broth. 751 kcal!!
Then went on to ION, where we fell in love with the stationery at Kikik.K.
But the real highlight of the evening was the window shopping.

rie: we have to have to go live soon!
me: Okay okay, choose a date
rie: 1/1
me: that’s so binary. 01.01.10, i mean. lol okay SET.
rie: lol yeah binary, true HAHAHAHA. should ask someone what that means.
me: it’s 22. 2+4+16
rie: haha really?
me: yup. 2^1 + 2^2 + 2^4
rie: that’s binary? (i don’t know why it’s you telling me this and not me telling you this XD)
me: lol i love numbers and algebra and all kinds of impractical mathematics
rie: hahhaa why are you a doctor again?
me: i ask myself that rather too frequently for my liking lol
*some time later*
rie: 1st Jan I might be in SF, so I guess it’s not a good idea. Maybe we could go live proper on the 9th? (that’s the first weekend, lol)
me: let’s go live on 10 Jan, then. 10.01.10 makes it 32 + 4 + 2 = 38. Okay 38 isn’t one of my favouritest numbers at all, but it’ll do. Then 3 + 8 = 11 which brings us back into binary ecstasy.
rie: and 1 + 1 = 2 which is changmin’s fave no. XD XD XD okay fin you the math whiz. I feel inadequate as an engineer XDXD not representing my career!
me: 11 in binary is actually 3. Then 11 x 3 = 33 i.e Jaejoong’s favourite number!
Yes, we are so GONE.

Realised today morning that road rage on the way home postnight could potentially bring me back to the place I least want to be; so I brought my speed down to the limit.
P.s. I would really like my ashes in an hourglass.

Spent the morning reading fluffy Christmas fics, chatting with rie, and getting re-acquainted with La’Cryma Christi and Pierrot.
The rainy afternoon was perfect – just lazing after lunch (ended with KOI tea!) and finally falling asleep.

La’cryma Christi – “Morning Whisper” (live). Beautiful acoustic opening followed by such wistful longing in the main verses. I couldn’t for the life of me remember the title of this song for the past five years! Till I saw the track list for their upcoming 4 disc compilation (argh, should I get it?) and my memory was jogged all over again.
When asked ”what song do you remember listening to ten years ago?” others might answer Savage Garden, Michael Jackson or what not. For me, besides the X Japan and L’arc en ciel staples, it’ll be La’cryma Christi, back when I was getting into Jrock but not really up to listening to the heavier stuff yet.
Found the translated lyrics here. It’s so bittersweet – 砂時計 あなたの灰を混ぜて – an hourglass mixing your ashes / ずっと僕のそば 置いているよ – I’m putting it always by my side.
Even when Rie and I fall for the same band, our favourite songs are never the same, lol. Hers are the happier ones; whereas I just need melancholy.
